Matt Ramsey is a pre-dental SDSU Alumni. He attended the Catch the Wave Conference in Spring 2014 and was thankful for so much accessible information in one place, he was inspired to join CPO and continue the tradition to help educate and inspire future health professionals. Matt was active in many organizations during his time at SDSU, such as VP of Finance for College of Sciences Student Council, Pre-dental Club member, and Pre-dental Community Outreach Director, but still devotes his time after graduation to CPO to help educate his fellow pre-health students. Matt spends his free time with his son and enjoys exploring this great city. He looks forward to continuing his passion to take care of his peers and community members as a dental healthcare provider.
Senior Director of Internal Affairs
Mahrou is a 4th year Pre-Dental student at San Diego State University. She volunteers at the UCSD student-run free dental clinics and the St. Leos clinic, both of which provide treatment for underserved communities. This is her second year helping plan the annual “Catch the Wave to Success” pre-health conference. Mahrou believes that “Catch the Wave” is the perfect opportunity for students to further explore their passions and gain insight into the many different health professions. In her free time, Mahrou enjoys traveling to learn more about the people of our world. As a future dentist, she aims to incorporate traveling into her career to provide dental care for communities in need.

Personality and Social Psychology Minor
Vicky is a pre-dental student at SDSU pursuing a degree in Biology and going into dental school in the near future. This is her third year being part of the leadership team in the Council of Pre-Health Organizations, and has enjoyed connecting students with community leaders and professionals in their field. In addition to CPO, Vicky was a part of the USNS Comfort mission in 2015 as a civilian dental technician, and hopes to continue helping the underserved communities in San Diego and internationally throughout her dental career in the future. Until then, she will continue making difference in her own community by being involved in volunteering and oral and overall health education events.
Rukman is a pre-med student at SDSU pursuing a bachelor’s of science in biology. He is currently volunteering at Scripps La Jolla at The Prebys Cardiovascular Institute and taking part in Chemistry research on the SDSU campus. In the future he hopes to use the medical field as an avenue to help others in need. In his free time, he enjoys climbing and surfing, as well as spending time with friends and family. After graduating Rukman plans on taking a gap year and spending more time getting involved in the community while exploring the different avenues medicine has to offer.
Honors Minor in Interdisciplinary Studies
Waqas is a 3rd year pre-medical student pursuing his degree in Biology at San Diego State University. While at school in San Diego, Waqas volunteers at Alvarado Medical Center and conducts research at the Sussman Heart Research Institute. During breaks in the academic year, Waqas returns home to Fresno and volunteers at Poverello House; a homeless shelter and medical clinic for the medically underprivileged community in California’s Central Valley. In order to have more direct interactions with patients, Waqas shadows physicians at Saint Agnes Medical Center and volunteers at a medical clinic in Tijuana as part of SDSU Flying Samaritans. In his free time, Waqas enjoys playing basketball, organizing and attending events for the youth group at his Mosque and spending time with friends and family.
Public Relations Director
Kimberly is a Pre-Pharmacy undergraduate student pursuing a degree in biology at SDSU. She currently volunteers at UC San Diego Health and other various events in the local San Diego community because she enjoys helping people on her free time. She enjoys watching films, listening to music, and playing tennis outside of her academics. In addition to CPO, she is also active in the Leadership Certificate Program, where she has attended leadership events and workshops on how to be an effective leader to help prepare her in her future career. She is proud to be a SDSU student and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of CPO’s hardworking council.
Graduate School Fair Director
Sophia is currently majoring in Biology in pursuit of becoming a doctor. This is the first year she is involved in CPO as project manager. Outside of CPO, Sophia had recently traveled abroad to Taiwan for 3 months to conduct research on tissue cartilage regeneration using stem cells and will be participating an enrichment program at UCLA this summer. Sophia will be applying to medical school this year for the 2018 cycle. As an aspiring future physician, Sophia immerses herself in activities to help underserved communities within San Diego.
Charwel was born and raised in San Diego. She is studying biology at SDSU and aspiring to become a physician assistant. She is taking medical assistant classes right now and looks forward to immerse herself into health care before she applies to PA school. She also works part-time as a shift lead at Baskin Robbins. Along with the CPO, she is involved in the Aztec Pre-Professional Health Organization and the Physician Assistant Student Association because she likes surrounding herself with students working to reach a common goal.
Colin is a fourth year student at SDSU with dreams of someday becoming an Emergency Medicine Physician. He started working as an EMT last year in order to apply to PA school but the fast-paced calls and critical patients have inspired him to attend medical school. Although working while going to school has been a challenge, he enjoys working alongside firefighters, paramedics, and nurses in order to help others in their time of need.
College of Sciences Student Council Representative
Katrina Ngo is the College of Sciences Student Council Representative for CPO, meaning that she acts as a liaison for CPO with the rest of the organizations that fall under the College of Sciences. She is currently studying chemistry and hopes to pursue a career in either medicine or research. Katrina is involved with research on campus as well as the Pathmaker Internship through Palomar Health. Apart from her studies and extracurricular activities, Katrina enjoys indoor rock climbing and hopes to extend her passion outdoors.
Religious Studies Minor
Katelyn is a pre-medical student at San Diego State University, studying biochemistry. She is especially interested in osteopathic medicine, and hopes to become a DO in the future. To facilitate her love for learning about osteopathic medicine, Katelyn is very involved with the SDSU Pre-SOMA club. She loves learning about different fields within medicine through her involvement in the Pathmaker Internship with Palomar Health. In her free time, she loves finding different places to hike around San Diego and doing arts and crafts projects. This is Katelyn’s first year being involved in the Catch the Wave conference, and she hopes that this conference will help all the attendees in getting valuable information to support their pre-health pathways.
